"American Idol" has been over for a week and there's nothing to fill the "Idol" sized void in my life. (Although I hear that Sanjaya's going to be on a reality show that starts next week.) So, I couldn't resist taking yet another poke at Hokey Gokey. Gokey wants to try out for "Dancing With The Stars." Really.
MILWAUKEE – Danny Gokey isn't going to let a few put-downs keep him from dancing.
The 29-year-old former church music director and "American Idol" finalist says he'd like to try "Dancing With The Stars," in part because the "Idol" judges regularly criticized his moves.
(Yes, he references his dead wife in the statement.)
Well, I suppose he couldn't be any worse at dancing than Steve Wozniak. Although Steve had Silicon Valley and legions of Apple fans voting for him (too bad it's still a Windoze world). Perhaps Vote for the Worst would support Hokey Gokey in his run on DWTS, although he wouldn't be anywhere near as awesome a contestant as Cloris Leachman.
Speaking of "Idol" people on DWTS, I'd like to see "Pauler" on the show. Although she might do better at ice dancing - all she would have to do is try to skate a straight line three consecutive times.
In other news, I read an article (via Vote for the Worst) that AT&T might have affected the "Idol" vote totals by providing phones and instructions on how to send multiple text messages to fans at voting parties held by Kris Allen's fans in Arkansas. So it's okay when a show sponsor does something like this for, say, Kellie Pickler (Cingular Wireless, then an "Idol" sponsor, provided phones at voting parties held in Pickler's home town of Albemarle, NC), but it's not okay when it's done for a contestant less favoured by the PTB? And don't get me started on Princess Jorbacca.
From the NY Times:
Officials of Fox Broadcasting declined to discuss the situation. In a statement issued Tuesday, a spokesman for AT&T said, “In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community. A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”
And Vote for the Worst weighs in:
If that's the case, thank you AT&T. We didn't know you were Worsters. VFTW Victory!
Awww, poor Kris. Can't he just enjoy being American Idol in peace for awhile?
So David Beckham's team La Galaxy hosted Brit Night. No, Britney Spears didn't try to sing that night; a number of famous Brits who didn't play soccer played against La Galaxy. After the game, musical entertainment was provided by Mark Ballas and Derek Hough from "Dancing with the Stars." And CarlyPlant.
I wonder if CarlyPlant sang the French song "Coup de Boule." That would have been funny, especially if she gave herself a coup de boule afterwards.
In other news, Steve Wozniak and Karina were eliminated from "Dancing With The Stars." That show is now officially unwatchable.
*authentic David Archuleta quote*
Cindy McCain (that's John McCain's present wife) had the opportunity to be on Dancing with the Stars. I mean, Dancing with the Stars. Unfortunately, John didn't think it was such a great idea. So Cindy's not doing the show. I betcha She Who Shall Not Be Named, But Whose Surname Rhymes with Nailin' would have done the show. You betcha!
CNN had this article on David Cook (remember him?), whose debut album came out yesterday. No, I haven't bought it. Yet. I probably won't buy Archuleta's album.
CNN: You were very involved in the making of your debut album, weren't you?
David Cook: Yeah. Out of 12 songs on the record, I wrote or co-wrote 10, and the label was even kind enough to let me get involved with the art direction on the record. So it was a busy summer.
CNN: You actually have a degree in graphic design, don't you?
Cook: I spent five long years at the University of Central Missouri. It should've been four, but I enjoyed college a little bit more than I should have.
Haha. Nonetheless, I am impressed that David had input in his album.
I am still bitter that Clorky (Cloris Leachman & Corky Ballas) will not be in the Dancing With The Stars final. The kid from Hannah Montana was eliminated yesterday. On the bright side, Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas (they won last spring) danced on the show.
The new cast for Dancing with the Stars was just announced, who will you be rooting for?
- Ted McGinley, because I get serious Vote For The Worst vibes from him. (Seriously, I have the feeling he's going to suck big-time.)
- Maurice Greene, because he's not Carl Lewis. (But isn't he Carl's BFF?)
- Susan Lucci (maybe she'll win and this will make up for all the times she was snubbed at the Daytime Emmys).
Any chance that someone can get Michelle Kwan to do this thing? I was rooting for Kristi Yamaguchi last season - as a skating fan, how could I not?
Do you think you're what they say you are?
Yesterday, of course, was Andrew Lloyd Webber night on "Idol." CarlyPlant sang "Superstar," from "Jesus Christ Superstar." How she managed to escape being hit by a bolt of lightning for such blasphemy, I don't know. Then again, she committed the ultimate blasphemy by dissing Sanjaya.
Anyways, tonight CarlyPlant left "American Idol."
If my brain weren't so sore (or maybe once all this sinks in), I'd pull several pints of Guinness and Riverdance for joy.
(Hey, this is CarlyPlant we're talking about. I'm not going through any extra effort for her. Including going on YouTube.)
The opening shot of her "going home" montage made her look like Tonya Harding with dark hair. Scary stuff. (Tonya Harding when she went to the 1994 Olympics, not Tonya Harding today. Tonya Harding today...simply frightening.)
Yesterday, I was told that some of the dancers from "Riverdance" would be on "Dancing With The Stars (which is on right after "American Idol" here)." I said "Maybe this is an omen that Carly(Plant) will be gone on Wednesday."
Buh-bye, CarlyPlant. Maybe you shouldn't have dissed Sanjaya.
(And I guess the failed record deal, the association with Randy Jackson, and a generally unlikeable demeanour probably didn't help her much either.)
